Hawai‘i Nature Center offers Winter Nature Adventure Camps on O‘ahu and Maui

HONOLULU (October 23, 2019)—The nonprofit Hawai‘i Nature Center (HNC) invites children, ages 6 through 11, to attend a week-long Nature Adventure Camp during the winter school break.

 The program will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Classes are not held on Dec. 25 (Christmas) and Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day).

 Created by award-winning environmental educators, these curated experiences will teach keiki through hands-on activities including forest hikes, stream investigations, nature crafts, insect safaris, beach explorations, off-site field trips and more.

On O‘ahu from Dec. 23 to 27, Nature Adventure Camp will explore Legends of the Landscape. During nature explorations, keiki will learn Hawaiian legends that are connected to O‘ahu's landscapes. A second week-long camp, titled The Ever-Giving Earth, will be held from Dec. 30 through Jan. 3.  Cost to attend is $300 for non-members with an after-hours option ($95 per week) for extended care. HNC’s Oahu campus is at 2131 Makiki Heights Drive in Honolulu.

Held from Dec. 30 to Jan. 3, Maui’s Nature Adventure Camp will explore Amazing Adaptations. Students will learn about native fish that can climb waterfalls, the ground-nesting pueo, the mighty silversword’s unique sun-deflecting qualities and more. Limited scholarships are available for students who attend Title 1 schools. Cost to attend is $260 for non-members. HNC on Maui at 875 `Īao Valley Road in Wailuku.
